"I didn't just want to paint charts, I wanted to work with customers to optimize them."
Jens Hornstein holds a degree in industrial engineering and has been working for Kerkhoff Cosulting since 2006 - now as Senior Partner in several positions.
How did you join the Kerkhoff Group?
The first contact took place in the former Kerkhoff office in the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai. At that time I worked for Bosch in China and then applied for a job at Kerkhoff. I went through an assessment center and was immediately offered a permanent position.
Why did you choose Kerkhoff?
The high implementation orientation appealed to me. I didn't just want to draw charts, but to implement optimizations together with clients - along the entire value chain, with a high level of expertise and detailed knowledge.
What was your first professional experience at Kerkhoff?
I was able to recite drugs by heart on the basis of their active ingredients - at that time we built up a three-dimensional drug database for a client.
What makes a Kerkhoff consultant?
He is in harmony between competence and empathy for the client.
What do you like best about your job?
I like the deep insight into the customer companies. This gives me the opportunity to optimize causes - and not symptoms.
What does an ideal colleague look like for you and why?
He is open, motivated and reflective and shows an interest in people (this inevitably leads to interesting conversations - even outside the job).
How do you reconcile family, leisure and job as a consultant?
Three tips: First - use "project management" in your private life in order to be able to plan leisure and job appointments; second - create a high intensity in dealing with your own leisure time and the children (it doesn't always count the time, but what you make of it); third - get external support.
What is your favourite pastime?
Playing with my children, hockey, playing the piano and reading.
